What ages benefit the most from the KID-FIT program?

The KID-FIT program is designed for children ages 2-5, Kindergarten children being the oldest. Some of the materials can definitely be used with older age groups but the actual routine and music is most appealing to those who are of preschool and Kindergarten age. At this time we do not have a program for children older than 6.

Is it geared to mostly boys or girls?

Both. There are sports skills in every 30-minute class as well as dance style routines. Both genders equally enjoy the activities and are exposed to a wide range of rhythmic, sports, fitness and gymnastics skills intertwined with all the basics of a balanced fitness class.

What does the course material cover?

Every class includes basics on exercise, nutrition and proper rest. Topics follow a yearlong curriculum which teaches 9 different body systems.

How does a licensing program differ from a franchise?

In several ways. First, the cost is phenomenally low. We believe in spreading fitness to children everywhere, regardless of whether concerned individuals have large amounts of money to invest or not. Plus, we do not require a percentage of your class sales. You get a tried and proven program that franchises offer (we've been doing this successfully for over 14 years now). Look at what the popular franchises give you and compare to what you get from KID-FIT. You'll see more value for less money. KID-FIT was developed and is run by true fitness professionals and therefore is focused around safe and effective fitness for children in addition to offering business basics. Check out the owner's credentials and corporate backgrounder. Schools especially receive a great value from being able to purchase a program of this nature as a license/curriculum package vs. a franchise.

Does being an authorized KID-FIT instructor give me the training to work with other populations or age groups?

No. The KID-FIT licensing program is highly focused on offering the absolute best for the 2-5 year old age market. Step-by-step training provided is helpful in understanding fitness as it applies to other groups but is not broad enough to be considered a certification program or personal training credential. Instructors who work for the corporate office, on the other hand, are trained for 12 weeks and do obtain a true KID-FIT credential which can be helpful in gaining fitness related work. This is only available in Southern California, in which case teachers in the greater Los Angeles area go to schools contracted through the corporate office. They work for the corporate office instead of themselves. Check the CE Course tab for downloadable and online Preschool Fitness courses available and CE credits.

Do I have to travel anywhere for training?

No.  The KID-FIT Teacher packages both come with basic instructions on how to teach the program session by session. Executive packages also include convenient one-on-one training either at your location or via web conferencing.

What if I don't know anything about fitness?

Each session you will be taken through a step-by-step description of what to do for each song on the KID-FIT lesson plan. You will see the instructions performed slowly so you can practice to each segment and then view an entire full-length class to see how the routine works in real life. If you don't have a background in fitness don't worry. Love for children and being good around them is most important. Virtually anyone fit and willing to take the time to prepare for each session will be able to teach the program.

I'm a fitness professional, will this conflict with any of my current business?

No. It will make you more valuable as a fitness instructor or trainer. The class time for most KID-FIT classes fits nicely around personal training schedules and group fitness instruction.

Where can I teach the KID-FIT program?

KID-FIT can be taught at schools, fitness facilities, day care centers, churches and just about anywhere there is a population of preschool children. You can start your own facility just for children although we recommend going mobile to begin with for more widespread business opportunities.

How soon can I get started?

As soon as you purchase, you can start teaching immediately or with the very next session. Sessions change each 6 weeks and you can begin teaching anytime during the year. Your first package will be rushed to you as soon as you wish with at least 6 weeks time to prepare. Or, you can download all information immediately. If you want your session to start later than that, you will be asked on the introductory questionnaire upon receipt of payment. Payment is for one full year of the curriculum beginning from the day you receive your first package. If you wish, you can purchase today and defer your start date by up to 3 months. During that 3 month interval you will have access to the online training materials where you can find all the tools needed to help familiarize yourself to the program and begin acquiring accounts.

How much can I expect to make per class? Per Year?

The standard fee for KID-FIT is $110/hr. when teaching a full curriuclum program (all children participate). This rate is for 2 half hour classes back to back, serving a total of 40 children. For example, a school has 40 children. At $11/month per child the total revenue per month will be $440 per month. Broken into an hourly amount, this equals $110/hr. So, when teaching one hour a week, you will generate $440 per month.

If you are teaching at locations where only select children participate, the monthly cost per child can be anywhere from $30-50 depending on your area.

Fees can be collected from schools, parents or a combination of both.

On an annual basis, your income will be determined by the density of your area plus the determination and skill you have in selling the program. There's no reason why you can not make a 6-figure income with the KID-FIT program as we have for years in Southern California.

How often should I teach the class at each location?

Once a week or more. Ideally, we recommend you spend once a week at a facility and have the staff practice individual skills during the other days. For vacations and time off you can either miss the lessons or make them up. The program runs continually yearlong.

We suggest that the program be taught for a minimal amount of 1 year. The strength of the KID-FIT program is clearly seen over the course of a year and you'll have a chance to demonstrate every session. In addition, you have access to our pre-post test for children. If administered you'll see how the program increases both preschool health knowledge and fitness level.

Is KID-FIT available in any other countries besides the U.S.?

Yes. The KID-FIT program can be used internationally, in any country. However, the materials are offered only in English at this time. There are licensees all over the world.

Is there flexibility with the routines or is every activity pre-planned and required?

The routines are pre-planned and required in order to authorize you as a KID-FIT instructor (otherwise we wouldn't know what you are teaching and couldn't put the KID-FIT name behind it). When it comes to working with older vs. younger ages, you will be instructed on how to adapt for developmental differences. If you are concerned more with your creative control than program components and reputation, rest assured. With the backbone of the class already designed for you, you're free to be more expressive, energetic and a better teacher.

Is the curriculum the same each year?

No.  The KID-FIT curriculum topics stay the same (teaching topics like heart, lungs, bones, etc.) but the actual routines, music, activities and supplemental materials change each session. So, this year's session on the bones is entirely different from last year's and the year before. Once a session is over, like a magazine subscription, it's gone. Your classes stay fresh and are updated to fit both the times and current research. The corporate office teaches the program one year ahead of all licensees. This way all routines have a chance to be tested, refined, perfected and updated before you get them.

What exactly is the cost for the KID-FIT license package the first year?

The cost of the program varies widely according to which package you choose. Non profits may qualify for grant funding. Public schools receive low subsidized rates. If you're a daycare or gym owner a single site license would be best for you. If you're looking to just teach a few classes and are not interested in running a business you would look for work under a licensed business owner and obtain the Neighborhood Instructor license. Those wanting to build a business and charge for classes would require one of the Executive Business Packages. Go to the pricing page to see exact costs.

Why is the price different for public schools vs. private individuals?

We offer substantially lower prices to the public school system and other non-profit entities because they won't be earning money on the program. Schools can acquire the KID-FIT license and curriculum for next to nothing when involving an entire district with many schools. Funding is a major issue with implementing school site physical education programs. We don't want money to be the reason why children from all areas can't benefit from the KID-FIT program.

What about when I renew, will it cost the same?

Executive Business packages renew at $150 per month. That fee includes the curriculum, zone and one teacher license.

For non-profits and public schools, the price remains the same as the origianl purchase price unless there is a lapse in renewal. In that case, a additional $100.00 license fee will be added to the original yearly fee.

If I don't want to continue with the licensing past the first year, can I teach the same curriculum for several years?

No. Unauthorized use of the KID-FIT curriculum is copyrighted and can not be used either whole or in part without permission from Aerobic Fitness Consultants. Authorized instructors all teach the same program at the same time each year. A child taking KID-FIT in Europe on Dec.1 will be doing the same routine as a child in Los Angeles taking KID-FIT the same day.

What if I just want to be trained to teach children but don't want to purchase your entire license and curriculum? Do you offer books, teaching manuals, or training courses?

Yes. There are a variety of online courses available for daycare workers, fitness professionals (ACE Approved), college students and the general public. For a complete list of our courses click here.

Are there any other fees? Royalties?

The purchase price you pay is all you owe us for the entire first year. As a conscientious professional you will want to have liability insurance, CPR and be aware of any music licensing fees applicable in your area (ASCAP and BMI, can range from $34-$75/yr). We do not charge royalty fees on monies earned from KID-FIT classes. There is a 10% fee on items with the KID-FIT logo that are sold for profit. This money goes back into advertising the KID-FIT name.

What amount of liability insurance do you recommend? What does it cost?

We recommend at least $1,000,000.00 worth of liability insurance to cover you in case anything were to happen while teaching the children. Many of the classes are offered off-site and since you may be traveling to many places it's best if you have the coverage follow you. You can expect to pay around $250-$350/yr for insurance, depending upon what source you use. If you are planning on using the curriculum in a private or public school, the school's insurance would most likely cover you. Insurance can be added to your homeowners plan or through an outside company such as K & K or Sports and Fitness Insurance.

I see you offer lectures and workshops. What are these about?

The lectures and presentations that we conduct are to educate adults on the importance of fitness for children of this age. We have given workshops at various universities, schools, and other institutions. If you would like to arrange for a presentation in your area let us know. We can also provide an instructional lecture on how to teach KID-FIT if associated with purchasing multiple licensing packages. In that case, travel and accommodation fees would be applicable.

What type of equipment is needed?

Children's attention is best gained by making the activities interesting. And, an effective fitness workout benefits greatly by items that can help develop muscle mass, balance, flexibility, etc. You'll need to have various props on-hand each session. Things like bean bags, hoops, scarves, balls, tunnels, etc. A list of the items needed goes with each session along with suggestions for how to acquire them inexpensively or free. Once you purchase you will have a complete list should you wish to purchase all the items needed upfront.

Do you sell equipment?

No. We do have affiliates you can access from our store. These companies offer the best prices we've found anywhere and will ship to you. You can always use the equipment suggestion sheet for each session to makeshift your own items too. Directions are included.

Are there any other materials that I need to purchase?

Your license and curriculum for an entire year are included in the package price. Equipment costs can vary greatly depending upon where items are purchased or if you make them yourself. Typically equipment costs for new items range from $200+ per session depending upon the number of teachers that need equipment. If you purchase all equipment needed expect to pay about $2500-3868 for the first year depending on the source. After the first year, additional equipment needs are little if any. You will, of course, need a computer with high speed internet (DSL or Cable). And, the appropriate software to access and customize business materials (MS Office Small Business 2003 or newer) and burn music (Roxio RecordNow).

What class size do you recommend?

No more than 20 children per class provided the KID-FIT teacher has at least one other assistant. We use a KID-FIT teacher plus 2 school teachers. Assistants can be parents, day care workers or other adults. By limiting class size to 20, children are easier to control and assure the environment is both fun and safe. In addition, you would only need to provide and store equipment for 20 children.

What if there are no adults to assist?

Without assistance, you won't be able to conduct the classes as designed. Activities change very frequently and if you are alone you won't have time to distribute and collect equipment with time left to do the activities. There won't be help to deal with behavior issues or children who have specific needs ("I have to go to the bathroom!"). In addition, we don't recommend teaching children without other adults present for liability reasons. And, you want staff to be there to see what wonderful things you are providing.

What about promoting the program in my area? Can I advertise it on my web site?

Yes. In fact, we will design, build and upload a website for you. Just provide your web host and we'll put up your site, make sure it's search engine optimized and maintain it for you as you grow.

You can also use the KID-FIT logo on other items you wish to market for publicity purposes. Just ask for our approval and you can earn money on related items such as water bottles, children's clothing, accessories, etc. You will need to stick to the company colors and logo, we just need to approve whatever the logo goes on. Any profits you make on related sale items are subject to a 10% fee. This fee comes back to us to use to market the KID-FIT name so that we all may benefit. If you are spreading the word through a news story, press release or marketing plan you need to mention KID-FIT as being part of Aerobic Fitness Consultants, and refer to yourself as authorized instructor.

Does it take long for approval on items with the company logo?

No. Approval is done via the internet and usually takes only a few days.

What about territory restrictions?

Business owners receive a 20 mile block to work in that we call a KID-FIT Zone. To read complete details on how zones protect your area, promote networking and can help you make more money, click here.

Is there any research available on the benefits of your program?

Yes. A year long pilot study was completed on the effects of the KID-FIT program on a number of Kindergartens across the U.S. Results showed a significant difference in children's fitness levels and health knowledge after taking the KID-FIT curriculum for the school year. Read details about the study by clicking on the Research and Evaluation button from the right hand menu on the home page.

From the home page you will also see a list of the various conferences we have presented pilot study data at recently. All of these organizations see the value in early intervention.

Has it been evaluated by any outside source?

Yes. Action For Healthy Kids, an organization devoted to helping improve health in children, has given the KID-FIT program an outstanding review. Go to the KID-FIT home page and click on Research and Evaluation to see their review and score.

What do others think of the program? Who can I speak to?

There are testimonial statements in the About Us section. You may also call any of the schools currently receiving classes from instructors at our corporate headquarters in CA. You'll find a list of them under schools with KID-FIT. If you would like to speak to other licensees let is know and we'll provide you with names and contact information.

Can I view an entire class?

Yes. You can see a short movie clip or full length KID-FIT class by clicking on the Videos button from the right hand menu on the home page (if you have Flash installed). There are also other videos to choose from on the video log page.

Are there materials to help with any of the business basics? What do I do to get started?

Yes. If you're interested in KID-FIT as a business opportunity and choose one of the Executive Packages, you'll have everything you need to start and run your business. Over 150 items are included such as templates for all office items, marketing, sales, press, demo classes and presentations are included as well as a number of audio visual promotional materials. All of them are downloadable and will be at your fingertips as soon as you join the team.

General help can be obtained through the online licensee group 24/7. Ask questions, read posts, and receive other valuable info 24 hours a day. Network with other business owners all over the world for support and business tips.

What type of technical support can I expect?

We're here for you whenever you need help and will get back to you in a timely manner should you have a concern, question or problem. We believe helping you succeed helps us all succeed. Just contact us at (877) KID-FITT or through the KID-FIT web site. You can also email michele@kid-fit.com. Once you receive your license you'll also have privileged access to the online support group just for KID-FIT licensees.

Is it possible to promote the program and get accounts before I purchase?

Not before training. Without adequate training or use of the proven sales, marketing and business tools that come with purchase you could jeopardize future business relationships. If there are preschoolers in your area, you have a viable market for the KID-FIT business.
