"I would like to tell you about our school’s fabulous experience with KID-FIT. KID-FIT is a preschool physical education program designed to instill healthy lifestyle habits in children ages 2-5. The KID-FIT preschool curriculum incorporates preschool exercises and preschool fitness activities such as aerobics, dance, stretching, gymnastics, sports, strengthening, gross motor skills and balance. Children workout and learn overall health, anatomy, nutrition, healthy food choices and exercise. KID-FIT preschool classes help develop self-esteem and positive associations with exercise, healthy eating and rest.
Earlier this year, The Oak School made the choice to switch to KID-FIT from the company that we had previously used for over seven years. This was actually a hard decision because we were completely comfortable with the program we already had in place…our children and staff had developed relationships with the instructor, parents were comfortable with the previous program, and we were used to it. Let’s face it: Change is hard!! From a logical point of view it was obvious the KID-FIT program was superior, but emotionally it wasn’t easy to step out of our comfort zone. Yes, we did meet with some internal resistance. Yes, it was tough to tell our old program that we were no longer going to be using them. Yes, KID-FIT is absolutely the best decision for our school and we are SO GLAD we did it!! From the very first weekly visit of KID-FIT, everyone – children, parents, and staff – were won over.
Because our director so believed in this program, we signed ALL of our 2-5 year olds up. This makes such a huge contribution to the success of the program. Not only does it benefit the children, but it also allows our teachers to participate as well. By participating in the KID-FIT lesson each week, our staff is earning CERTIFIED TRAINING HOURS!!! After just 12 weeks of KID-FIT, each classroom teacher who participates earns 6 HOURS towards the requirement of 15 hours. How cool is that ?! Also, as you know, the Federal Food Program wants all of us to implement 30 minutes of continuous movement every day. KID-FIT can actually help with that. As the classroom teachers participate each week, they can learn the routines and then continue to use them throughout the week during the daily exercise time period.
I am in no way affiliated with the KID-FIT program, other than working at a childcare center where KID-FIT comes in weekly. I am simply writing this because I truly believe in the KID-FIT program. I know that initially many of our staff (myself included) were resistant to making the change to KID-FIT, and I thought knowing of our experience would help convince others to give them a try. The children LOVE it. They sing, dance, pretend, and have FUN…all while learning and exercising. Our staff benefits and earns credited training hours by participating as well. It is helping our center meet the daily requirement of physical activity from the Federal Food Program. None of that would matter though if the KID-FIT instructors weren’t as wonderful as they are. Each week they come in, full of smiles, energy, and enthusiasm as they go from room to room and work with our children. They are what make the KD-FIT program a success more than anything else. Thank you."
Sincerely,
